About

Humera Khan — Founder & CEO

I started Happy Healthy You Bradford and Beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic, when so many people were struggling with isolation, anxiety, and poor health. Like many others, I’d faced my own challenges with wellbeing, and I wanted to create something that made people feel supported, connected, and confident again.

It began with a few online sessions — simple, friendly spaces where people could move, chat, and feel part of something positive. Those early sessions quickly grew into structured wellbeing programmes that brought communities together and helped people rediscover joy in looking after their health.

Today, Happy Healthy You is a multi-award-winning organisation that delivers inclusive health and wellbeing programmes across Bradford and beyond. We design and deliver activities that combine physical health, mental wellbeing, and community connection — working alongside the NHS, local authorities, and trusted partners.

I’m proud to lead a passionate, trauma-informed team with over 100 years of combined experience. Together, we deliver programmes that change lives — helping people to feel happier, healthier, and more confident in themselves and their future.

What drives me every day is simple: I never want anyone to feel the way I once did. My goal is to keep building a community where everyone feels seen, supported, and inspired to live a happier, healthier life.

Who We Are

Happy Healthy You is built on one simple belief:

Everyone deserves to feel happier and live healthier.

We’ve been trusted by communities across Bradford and beyond, delivering fitness, mental health support, and wellbeing programmes in places where people feel most at home. Now, we’re bringing that same expertise into the workforce, helping organisations improve the health, resilience, and productivity of their staff.

What Makes Us Different

We don’t just wait for people to come to us…
We go to them!

From different faith settings (Gurdwaras, Churches, Mosques) to schools, homeless shelters, recovery cafés, and community centres — we bring health and wellbeing directly into the spaces where people already gather, breaking down barriers, building trust, and creating lasting change.

We are a wrap-around service that provides person-centred support for the whole community — men, women, and children. Our work is culturally sensitive, shaped by the people we serve, and rooted in the most deprived areas where health inequalities are greatest.

We also work with employers, from the NHS to local organisations, to deliver tailored workforce programmes that address the real causes of staff sickness and burnout.

Our future vision includes creating a small, welcoming hub of our own — a place where people can come for one-to-one support, group sessions, and calm reflection. But for now, our strength lies in going out into communities and workplaces, meeting people where they feel most comfortable.

Mission, Vision, Aims, Objectives, Approach & Values Statement (2026)

Vision

A future where communities lead the way in shaping their health and wellbeing, with equitable chances for good health, happiness and connection in the places people live, work and gather, supported by the VCSE and local and national systems working collaboratively to uphold dignity and fairness for all.

Mission

Happy Healthy You works alongside people and communities most often underserved by mainstream systems to deliver community-based physical, mental, environmental and social wellbeing support in everyday, trusted places.

Through long-term, community-led and culturally grounded practice, HHU builds trust and confidence, reduces barriers to access, and translates lived experience into practical learning that strengthens services, partnerships and challenges and transforms systems.

Aim

To improve access to wellbeing support and opportunities for people facing the greatest structural barriers to health and wellbeing, while identifying and using what works in communities to strengthen inclusion, quality and outcomes across local and wider systems.

Our Approach

Happy Healthy You’s work is shaped by sustained, sustained delivery in communities experiencing the greatest structural barriers to health and wellbeing. By working in everyday settings, primarily in person, with additional online support, and alongside people over time, HHU develops deep, practical insight into how inequality is produced, reinforced and experienced in daily life.

This close, ongoing delivery enables HHU to adapt support responsively, identify what creates engagement and trust, and deliver activities and support that people actively want, in ways that reflect their needs, preferences and circumstances. Learning from this work is then shared with partners to improve practice, strengthen collaboration and inform wider decision-making. In this way, HHU’s role extends beyond delivery alone, contributing to more equitable and effective systems through grounded, community-led insight.

Objectives (5)

  1. Deliver trusted, place-based wellbeing support

Provide high-quality, consistent and culturally relevant physical, mental and social wellbeing support in community settings, with continuity for people who need deeper and longer-term engagement.

  1. Reduce barriers to access and participation

Actively address cultural, digital, language, confidence and discrimination-related barriers so people can engage with wellbeing support on their own terms.

  1. Strengthen community leadership and peer support

Grow local leadership, volunteering and peer pathways that build confidence, skills, voice and progression within communities, creating opportunities for people to shape their own wellbeing and influence what happens around them.

  1. Translate lived experience into learning and influence

Capture insight from delivery to inform partners, improve service design and contribute to system change locally and beyond Bradford.

  1. Build a sustainable and resilient organisation

Strengthen HHU’s infrastructure, governance, evaluation and income mix so delivery is protected, learning is valued, and growth is intentional, ethical and achievable over the long term.

Our Values (6)

  1. People and Communities first

We start from people’s lived realities, priorities and circumstances, using this insight to shape practical, effective support and inform how services and systems respond.

  1. Community-led and culturally grounded

We work in ways that reflect culture, faith, identity and place, building trust through relationships, representation and shared ownership.

  1. Equity in practice

We focus effort where structural barriers are greatest and challenge structural inequality through practical action, not rhetoric.

  1. Care with commitment

We offer continuity, reliability and hands-on support, particularly where short-term or light-touch approaches are unlikely to be enough.

  1. Learning and improvement

We value research, reflection, evidence and feedback, using learning deliberately and creatively to strengthen our work and improve how others deliver support.

  1. Integrity and collaboration

We work openly with partners, share learning responsibly, and protect the purpose and values that underpin our work.
